Its presence has persisted for years, centuries, even millennia according to some experts; it not only pollutes but also kills animals and plants, dirties and saturates any habitat, it has become an uncomfortable companion but one on which we also depend. It began to be manufactured in the thirties of the last century and from the fifties onwards it was mass-produced. We are referring to plastic and its derivatives, the recycling and handling of PET (Polyethylenterephthalat), like other waste, has become a real challenge for countries and their recycling companies.

The recycling sector in Mexico is witnessing the collaboration of two companies, TOMRA Recycling and Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited. On 20 May 2021, global leader in metal sorting technology, TOMRA Recycling held it first metals sorting webinar entitled ‘Aluminium sorting industry outlook – key sorting technologies, innovations and opportunities in a circular economy.’ More than 200 participants from across the globe joined the 45-minute live session.

Interecycling, S.A., a Portuguese company associated to the Marcovil - Metalomecânica de Viseu, S.A. Group specializing in the recycling of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE), relies on TOMRA Recycling for its new line of separation of metals and plastics. The integration of a FINDER and a FINDER with NIR sensor enabled the plant to increase its efficiency by precisely separating metals and plastics for subsequent recovery.

Anticipating future trends in the aluminum sorting industry, TOMRA Recycling is going to hold its first metals sorting webinar “Aluminum sorting industry outlook - key sorting technologies, innovations & opportunities in a circular economy” on May 20, 3pm CEST.  

The current global economy is based on a linear model of production and consumption, where raw materials are used to manufacture products, which are subsequently sold, used and finally discarded as waste; this continuous cycle has become unsustainable for the environment.
